About Us
For nearly twenty years, MENTOR Maryland has been serving children and adolescents with developmental disabilties and emotional, behavioral and medically complex challenges. At MENTOR Maryland, we believe that the needs of each individual are best served within the communities they call home. Our home and community-based programming includes:
- Therapeutic foster care
- Medically fragile foster care
- Alternative school programs
- Transitional programs including independent living services, vocational training and group home care
- Wraparound services and case managment
Our foster care services and other residential programs are delivered in private, family homes through our network of local caregivers called Mentors. With the support of MENTOR Maryland staff, our Mentors become trained caregivers who open up their homes and their hearts to the individuals we serve. The key to our residential program success is the relationship that develops between the Mentor and the individual in his or her home – a relationship of advocacy, support, caring and supervision.
In 2002, MENTOR Maryland formed a relationship with Family Advocacy Services, another Maryland provider, to expand our community-based programs and transitional services. Together Family Advocacy Services and MENTOR Maryland serve at-risk children and their families, providing additional therapeutic foster care, independent living supports and alternative school programs.
MENTOR Maryland also partnered with REM in 2003, a 17-state provider of services and supports to people with developmental and other disabilities since 1967. By providing a wide range of service options, and adapting those services as the needs of the individual change, REM ensures a quality life experience for every individual served.
MENTOR Maryland is a member of MARFY, the Maryland Association of Resources for Families and Youth.
A Community of Caring: A Network of Quality
As a partner of The MENTOR Network, a national network of local human service providers, MENTOR Maryland provides those who work with us and those we serve the benefits of a strong national structure coupled with the specialized programs and localized services offered at various locations throughout Maryland. With many program offices across the state, the individuals we serve are often able to remain close to home and maintain important personal and community connections.
All of us at MENTOR Maryland and The MENTOR Network are united by our mission and values, which seek to enhance the lives of individuals we serve by building relationships and providing innovative, high quality, community-based care. Together we have access to shared resources, protocols and supports which help us to effectively achieve this mission.
MENTOR Maryland is proud to be a part of The Network, leveraging its national structure and resources to provide cost-effective solutions, a career ladder for employees and the highest possible quality of care.
